Engagement Photos at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center

I was so excited when Kirk first reached out to me before proposing to Kaylee at the Rockefeller Christmas Tree in New York City. Kirk and I grew up in the same small town in south central Kansas. I love getting to work with old friends! You can click here to see their proposal, which was feature on The Knot's How They Asked blog. Kirk flew Kaylee's family out to surprise her just seconds after he proposed to her. After the proposal we spent a little time walking around midtown and Times Square. It was so fun to be back in the old stomping grounds and spending time with folks from back home.

Kirk and Kaylee really wanted photos to be taken somewhere outside of the city where they could be immersed in nature, which is something they really enjoy as a couple! I knew they would love doing their engagement session at Burr Oak Woods because of its stunning pine trees and spacious prairie that has a gorgeous view of sunset out to the west. This nature center really is something unique to this area of the country. It gives off the vibe of a mountain forest but it's only a 30 minute drive from downtown Kansas City! After spending a bit of time at the nature center, we ventured out to a nearby lake to do some more engagement photos at Lake Tapawingo. There are these perfect little rocky ledges that lead out into the water, affectionately referred to as "the pods" by the locals who hang out there. They are covered with just a little bit of water, making them an awesome spot for engagement photos out in the water without having to get in too deep. It was so much spending the evening with them and watching the sunset over the lake.
